sunset ranch

Sunset Ranch is a documentary series built around a working cattle and horse property near Tabernash, Colorado, set against the Rocky Mountains. The project grew out of something simple: time spent on the land, helping neighbors, earning access to a river by hauling 12,000 pounds of hay each fall from Grand Lake back down to their ranch in Tabernash. The hay runs became the spine of the series.

What drew me to this project was the chance to strip everything down. Smallest camera I own. No crew, no lights, no plan beyond showing up and being present. When the tool is small enough to disappear, you stop thinking about photography and start living inside the moment. That's where these images came from.

It's become one of my most authentic bodies of work, and one of my favorites. A way of life that is harder than it looks, more beautiful than words get right, and quietly disappearing.
